He married FRANCES SHERWOOD Caroline Co., MD, 1775. (notes of Vern Skinner from Caroline co., MD marriage licenses) (FRANCES SHERWOOD is #15807.) FRANCES was the daughter of PHILIP SHERWOOD. Notes of Jim Marshall: John and Theophilus were in possession of "Carthegenia Point" on 1783 Dorchester tax list.

Vernon Skinner says John married Frances Sherwood, daughter of Philip and sister of Elizabeth Sherwood, who married John's brother, Theophilus.

John is listed on the 1783 Tax List. Frances married second John Stevens, Esq. on July 28, 1785, Dorchester Co., MD.

IT IS NOT PROVED that John Marshall was the father of Sarah who married Sutherlin McColley -on-going investigation. Notes: no John in Caroline Co. probate index Caroline Co. 1790 census; Talbot Co. 1783 tax list; Dorchester Co. 1776 census and Talbot Co. 1790 census was destroyed.
