23. JOHN3 PURNELL (JOHN2, THOMAS1) was born before 1707. JOHN died before August 22, 1766 in Worcester Co., MD, at approximately 59 years of age.

He married MARY (wife of John Purnell) before 1766. His father called him "youngest son," and left him "Purnells Lot," "Mattapany Marsh," and "Brothers Love." John was not named in his mother's will; however, his son, Robert, was called "grandson." He is shown on the 1723 Tax list.

This is probably the Robert Purnell, Private, Worcester Militia, Wicomico Battalion, Capt. Fisher Walton's Company.

Administration of his estate was submitted August 22, 1766 by Mary Holland, administrator, wife of William Holland. Deceased was former guardian of Fisher Walton. (notes of F. Edward Wright)

child 115 i. ROBERT4 PURNELL was born before 1780. A Robert Purnell, Private, served in the Worcester Militia, Wicomico Battalion, under Captain Fisher Walton's Company, 1st Class, July 15, 1780. (Henry C. Peden, Jr., Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Cos. MD, Willow Bend, Westminster, MD, 1999, p. 239) He was named in his grandmother, Martha Selby's, will.
