604. SARAH ELIZABETH "BETTIE"⁷ SPENCE (JOHN SELBY⁶, ANN NANCY⁵ PURNELL, LEMUEL⁴, ELISHA³, THOMAS², THOMAS¹) was born in Worcester Co., MD April 17, 1825. SARAH died July 3, 1883 in Worcester Co., MD, at 58 years of age.

She married JOHN HENRY PURNELL in Worcester Co., MD, June 6, 1849. JOHN was born March 29, 1827. JOHN was the son of JOHN SELBY PURNELL (Jr.) and MARGARET CAMPBELL HENRY. JOHN died August 16, 1853 at 26 years of age. He is buried at St. Pauls Cemetery, Berlin. Date of death recorded in Atalanta Purnell Bible. His widow resided with his father in 1860 census. (Leslie P. Dryden, Dryden Family & Descendants, Alamo, TX, 1999) Bettie is listedin the 1870 and 1880 census near Berlin; she was living with her father-in-law in 1860. 846 iii. HENRY PURNELL was born in Worcester Co., MD October 7, 1853. HENRY died after 1910. He married ANNE CATHERINE "KATE" DERICKSON in Worcester Co., MD, November 8, 1883. ANNE was born October, 1853. ANNE was the daughter of LEVIN L. DERICKSON and SARAH E. FOREMAN. Henry was a farmer and worked at the branch office of Internal Revenue in Berlin.
