He married ELIZABETH BALL. ELIZABETH died 1799 in Worcester Co., MD. Buried at All Hallows Church. (query to Baltimore Sun-notes of Vern Skinner) Stephen was under age in 1744. The 1783 Tax List shows him with "Littleworth" 4M, 4F

He served as a Private, Worcester Militia, Snow Hill Battalion, Capt. John Parramore's Company, 1777. He took the Oath of Allegiance in Worcester County in 1788 before the Hon. Joshua Townsend. (Henry C. Peden, Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Cos.) Will dated August 6, 1798, probate October 12, 1798 named wife Elizabeth and left her plantation; son Stephen, plantation after wife's death; son Shadrack 50A "Worse Than Nothing;" granddaughter Sally Sturgis Hosier; children Peter Sturgis, Mary Tarr, Easther Hudson; Daniel Jones and Jessee Bennitt to divide estate; witnesses: John Houston, Nancy Bennitt and Jessee Bennitt.
