The PDC is finalizing the site of one additional location. It is likely that another dock will be located within Quinby's harbor. The floating dock at the Willis Wharf Harbor has been completed. See the latest news.

Background

The PDC and Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program, part of the Department of Environmental Quality, partnered to build floating docks (Wachapreague Marina Floating Dock is pictured) to improve public access to local harbors, marinas and boat ramps.

The PDC and the Towns of Chincoteague and Wachapreague applied for VMRC permits to construct floating docks at Eastside Landing and Wachapreague Marina in July 2005.

In October 2005, the PDC openned a bid process to find a contractor to handle construction. BIC, Inc was selected and once the VMRC permits were obtained the floating docks were constructed and installed.

In 2006, state and local officials met to discuss improvements at the Willis Wharf Harbor. Along with a floating dock, an observation deck will be built.
