Christmas Tree tips
*
Check
to see that the tree you purchase is fresh. Make sure the top branches
are flexible and that the needles do not fall out when the tree is shaken.
*
When you get the tree home, trim ¥2 inch off the bottom
of the trunk and immediately immerse it in water for five days. This will
allow your tree to drink its fill of water before being brought indoors.
*
Before bringing your tree inside, store it in a protected
place away from sunlight, heat, and wind. The ideal spot is a porch or
garage on the north side of your house. Keep the bucket filled with water!
*
When you bring your tree indoors, put it in a container
or stand that holds plenty of water. A deep bucket filled with damp sand
works well as a tree stand.
*
Keep your tree away from baseboard heat and fireplaces.
Never leave the tree lights on all night or when you leave the house.
Though small, the lights produce heat and will dry out your tree, creating
a fire hazard.
*
Play it safe! When your Christmas tree starts to dry out,
remove it from your house.

After the tree goes outside, decorate it for the birds
with strings of popcorn and pine cones smeared with peanut butter and
rolled in birdseed so all can enjoy the tree.
