Youth Mission Activities

Drummondtown Baptist Church has a strong and growing Youth Program for Middle and High School Children. Several College students also participate with us. We meet weekly on Wednesday evenings following dinner, but we also have special gatherings throughout the week.

For the past several years our Youth have gone on an annual Summer Mission Trip. In years past they have gone to Maggie Valley North Carolina to help with a Baptist Summer Day Camp for "at-risk" children in the local area. These children were mostly "latch-key" kids who would have to stay home alone if the camp didn't exist. Our Youth have done everything at this camp from painting beds, clearing trails, building steps to actually working with the children. Our young people came home with a strong bond and a greater understanding of how God's love works and how lucky they were to be in the fortunate circumstances that they were in. During the Summer of 2003 our Youth traveled to Myrtle Beach South Carolina to take part in the Beach Missions that are available to youth from all over the country. During the summer of 2004 our Youth traveled to Alexandria, Virginia to provide Bible School to local children in that community. They worked and stayed at Sunset Hills Baptist Church. While there they provided VBS to approximately 50 children. They also performed minor repairs and maintenance to the church itself and also helped do the same at the homes of shut-ins within the church community. They also helped build a playground for a future preschool that will be sponsored by Sunset Hills Baptist.

Our Youth start in the fall raising funds for this specific goal. They have had various fund raisers including, car washes, dinners, yard sales, pizza sales, T-Shirt sales and in 2004 we began the "first annual" BBQ Pork Roast during Accomac's annual July 4th Celebration. They have even provided food at a Church Member's auction. Without these fund raisers and the generosity of our Church Family, our community and friends, the Mission experiences that our children have taken part in would not be possible.

Local Missions have been an important part of our Youth experience at Drummondtown Baptist also. We have worked with Habitat for Humanity and a group of our Youth participated in Hands Across the Shore Litter Clean-up in the Spring.  Our Youth also assist with the younger children in our Church family as well.

In the summer of 2006, our Youth participated with  Group - Week of Hope Work Camps and traveled to Canandaigua,New York. We were there the week of July 30 - August 4. If anyone is interested in getting more information, please contact Shirley . Or better yet, check out the link below to get more information about our experience while we were there.

During the summer of 2007, we once again worked locally. This year it was with Habitat for
Humanity for an entire week. (Minus the 4th of July, which was devoted to the BBQ). We worked with a group from Ohio that we met in Canandaigua the year before. To learn more about our week of service on the Shore, please visit our 4th of July page and our Habitat Mission Page.
