Welcome aboard! This site provides updates on new publications, a schedule of upcoming appearances, bio data, and a small archive of selected articles, interviews, and essays. It has information on works in print, including downloadable sample chapters; a section on collector's editions; and advice for beginning writers. You can also order autographed first editions direct.
My fiction falls into four series -- Dan Lenson, Tiller Galloway, Hemlock County, and the Civil War at Sea books -- along with the occasional one-off. For details on each series, see below. Most bookstores, independent or chain, either stock my books already or can get them quickly. To order from them by phone: note down the title and the ISBN from here, and phone your friendly local retailer. Most stores can have a volume for you in only a few days, even if they don't have it on the shelf at the moment.
Another choice is on-line ordering through one of the online
bookstores. They'll have those earlier books that are still in
print in
paperback, but for some of the earlier titles, your only source will
be used bookstores, or this site.
Finally, I have a limited number of hardcover first editions of my
titles. For information on having them autographed or personally
inscribed for your collection, or to give as a gift, see Ordering
Information -- First Editions, below.
What am I doing right now? KOREA STRAIT, the latest instalment
in Dan Lenson's career, came out in December. It's based on a
cruise I did in the 90's with the ROKN -- the South Korean Navy.
I'm marketing a
screenplay in LA called INCOMPATIBLE. I'm finishing the
final draft of this December's novel, titled THE WEAPON. I'm
thinking about doing
a nonfiction book based on the "American Mandarin: In Search of Philo
McGiffin"
article that appeared in the Sept/Oct Shipmate Magazine last
year, but that will
depend on financing. And just finished an underway day aboard USS
SQUALL, courtest of PC Crew Delta, for research for the '09 book, as
yet untitled.
Readers of Chesapeake Bay Magazine will see a piece
this fall about a cruise down to Roanoke Island (Yep -- Tiller
territory). And readers of Shipmate,
be on the alert this fall for a two-part article on the life and death
of the
Academy humor magazine, The Log.
I'm still on the faculty of Wilkes University, in Wilkes-Barre, PA,
teaching in the MA/MFA in Creative Writing program, with
residencies in January and June of each year. This is a good,
tough program. I mentor new novelists in that program,
one on one; I have some very promising students who are finishing their
first
books. (For more info on that as well as my essays on writing,
see
Writing Tips and Advice, below.)
I appreciate your interest in my work! I revise and update this site several times a year, so check back occasionally for fresh material. Thanks for dropping by, and my sincere thanks to all my fans for your support over the years!
Yours in the Word,
Dave.
