NRA Youth Shooting Event (11/7)
Just
for youth -- a safe, fun shooting experience without cost to participants is
planned for November 7. The NRA Youth Sportsfest Camp is open to all girls and
boys, ages from 8 to 18. The NOAAWIVA Sportsmen Club on Chincoteague Road near
Oak Hall will host the daylong event. Free drinks and food will be
provided. The camp offers unique,
learning opportunities for Eastern Shore youth to learn about the importance of
firearm safety and to participate in a wide variety of shooting sports. The
camp begins at 9:00 AM with registration followed by firearm safety
orientation, shooting activity instruction and participation (depending on
age/ability) in the fastest growing sports in the nation. The activities offered include clay
shooting with 20 gauge shotguns, .22 rifle target and reactive shooting, air
gun target shooting and junior service rifle competition. Attending youth will have an
opportunity to shoot paper scoring targets and reactive targets such as
spinners and clay targets. Prizes
and awards will be given. The camp
activities will end about 3:00 PM.
The
NOAAWIVA Sportsmen Club is hosting the camp as a community service. The club will provide lunch, hearing
and eye protection, firearms to be used and ammunition without cost. This will
be the first annual youth shooting event hosted by the club. All activities will be supervised by
NRA certified instructors, range safety officers, and experienced club members. Call George Foster (757-442-7287) or Ray Wimbrow
(757-336-1966) for further information and directions.
