Parks & Recreation Department

The Northampton County Parks & Recreation Department provides facilities and programs to serve the leisure, social, cultural and recreational needs of the community. Programs are provided at schools, athletic fields, parks and other facilities located throughout the County. Information is gathered from the community to determine the need for services.

GOALS
  • To promote a wholesome recreational program that will foster a friendly community environment.
  • To preserve the native history of Indiantown Park.
  • To form partnerships with local businesses, towns and the state for creating recreational opportunities within the County and providing funding for recreational programs.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee

The Recreation Advisory is the policy governing board for the Department Of Recreation. They meet on the first Wednesday of every month at 4:00pm at Indiantown Park facility. If you are interested in speaking to or joining the Recreation Board, please contact 757-678-0468.

Upcoming Events:

Adult Men’s Basketball League

Season Begins – December 1, 2008

Season Ends – T.B.D

Games will be played Monday and Wednesday nights in the Northampton Middle School gym, game times are 6:30pm, 7:30pm, and 8:30pm.

Team Fees - $300.00 (15 man roster only)

Team Registration – OPEN

Team Registration Deadline – November 21, 2008 at 5:00pm

*A coaches meeting will be held November 14, 2008 at Indiantown Park, meeting time will be 6:00pm. Coaches’ packet and team fees must be turned into NCPR no later than the deadline – NO EXCEPTIONS. A double elimination tournament will follow the end of the season.

 

NCPR Annual 5k Turkey Trot!

The Northampton County Parks and Recreation Department will be sponsoring the annual Turkey Trot on Nov. 22 2008. Registration for the popular 5k run/walk will begin at 8:30 am on the day of the race near the finish line in front of the Nassawadox Cancer Center. The race is scheduled to begin at 9am. NCPR annual Turkey Trot t-shirts will be available at the race for a five dollar donation; all proceeds will go to the Northampton County Parks and Recreation Department. Come and out and help support your local Parks and Recreation.

Youth Basketball League

Season Begins – January 17, 2008

Season Ends – T.B.D

Games will be held on Saturdays, coaches will be notified if there are changes in scheduling.

Registration Fees - $30.00 per child

Registration Deadline – December 22, 2008 at 5:00pm

Registration – OPEN
*A draft/registration will take place at Northampton Middle School gym for all new and returning players on December 20, 2008. Registration will begin at 10:00am; the draft will begin at 10:30am. Late registration forms and fees will be collected after the deadline but will be placed on a waiting list until a team spot becomes available. Each team may only have a 10 player team so register early to secure your spot. VOLUNTEER COACHES ARE NEEDED!!!!

Adult Softball League!

Northampton County Parks and Recreation’s Adult Softball League will begin September 11, 2008. Coaches are responsible for returning team packets (includes team rosters, waivers, and coaches agreement) to NCPR before the first game. Team registration fees are $400.00; fees are due before the first game. Coaches may pick up their team packets at Indiantown Park Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm. Northampton Tennis League:

Northampton County Parks and Recreation and USTA are teaming up to start a tennis league in Northampton County. There will be a meeting held in the Parks and Recreation Building at Indiantown Park on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 7:00 pm to provide further information about the tennis league and to determine how much interest there is from Northampton County residents to start a tennis league. If you are interested in playing tennis or would like to be an instructor, please come to this meeting and show your support.
