Emergency Communications Manager

General Description
Under minimum supervision manages the operation of Public Safety Emergency Communications work group for Dinwiddie Fire & EMS; monitors operations and assures compliance with County policy and procedures to provide assistance and information to law enforcement, emergency services personnel, and the general public.

Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

• Manages operations of the Emergency Communications work group; evaluates and analyzes issues and recommends and implements solutions to safeguard operations and the community; anticipates problems and pursues solutions.
• Develops, evaluates, and implements policies and procedures; monitors operations and assures dispatch activities are in compliance with all law, policies, regulations, timelines, and goals.
• Evaluates and analyzes operational issues; recommends and implements solutions; investigates and resolves complaints and operational issues; prepares special and recurring reports.
• Supervises the activities of Emergency Communication Supervisors. Coordinates, prioritizes, and assigns tasks and projects; tracks and reviews work progress and activities; trains and schedules staff and evaluates work performance; meets regularly with staff to provide direction and guidance on technical and procedural issues.
• Monitors telephone and radio in dispatch center; assures that calls and messages requiring action by the Emergency Communications work group are handled in accordance with Dinwiddie County rules and regulations.
• Evaluates staffing needs and adjust work schedule to meet estimated workload demand.
• Manages the training of staff.
• May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends in the event of departmental or county wide emergency.
• Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks associated with maintaining work areas.
• Monitors security systems and security monitors.
• Performs related work as required.
