Real Property Real property is assessed at $0.22/$100 of assessed value. It is due annually, for current calendar year, on December 5th. Motor Vehicles An annual Town Plate or Sticker must be purchased by April 15th of each year. The fee is $27.00. Business License Each business must obtain an Annual License by January 1st of each year. The fee is $30.00. Transient Occupancy Tax Those providing lodging must submit quarterly payments of 2% of gross receipts. Note: All stickers, licenses and other town business is conducted by mail or in person at the Town Hall. Payment may be made with cash or personal checks. Credit cards are not accepted. Checks should be made out to "Town of Wachapreague". Below are selected ordinances of interest to the residents. Copies of all Town ordinances are available at the Town Hall. Real and Personal Property Estate Tax Ordinance The Ordinance establishes December 5th as the due date of annual Real and Personal Property taxes and provides for a penalty for delinquent payment of taxes, the imposition of interest on delinquent taxes, attorney's fees, collection agency's fees, and administrative cost fees upon the collection of delinquent town taxes. Maintenance of Lawns and Grounds Grass must be kept shorter than 12-inches high. If the owner fails to keep it cut, the Town will do it at the owner's expense. It's appreciated, of course, if you also keep shrubs and ornamentals trimmed, and over-growth controlled. Construction Debris Arrangements must be made in advance with your contractor to control and remove any significant debris resulting from additions/renovations to your property. Leash Law Accomack County prescribes that all dogs must be under their owner's control when outside the home. Clean-Up After Your Dog Specifies that dog owners must clean-up after their dogs on public and private property within the Town of Wachapreague (unless specifically OK'd by the property owner). Zoning Ordinance The Town of Wachapreague requires permits before any construction work is begun. Please contact the Zoning Administrator.
