Replacing the box garden walkways at Wellington, 18-28 March 2003.

The formal box garden at Wellington, before work started. The walkway around the sundial (before). Closeup of the walkway. Bricks can be made out under the grass. Another Take my word for it -- there are bricks under all that mess. Detail of walkway foundation showing buried irrigation hose. Walkway foundation, dug and tamped, ready for crush&run. Halfway done. What a mess! Trying various brick layouts. Crush & run, to bed the bricks. The Ambassador likes to supervise. Starting to take shape now. Intersection detail. Joining the center diamond to the rest of the walkways presents a challenge. Outside corners are simpler. David contemplating the fate of broken bricks. Pilchard the Cat trying to make sense of all the activity. Still plenty of bricks left to go. Outside corner detail. Fitting the center diamond in with the rest of the walkways. Port side walkway starting to take shape. Filling in the gaps. Almost done! Outside corner final form. All done and looking good! The center diamond, now ready to put the sundial back and plant some flowers. Leftover bricks. Ta da!
