118. Charles5 Bishop (Joseph4, John3, Mary2 Bowen, William1) was born before 1755. Charles died before June 11, 1805 in Worcester Co., MD, at approximately 50 years of age. Charles died intestate. Administration was granted to Zipporah Bishop and bonds by John Bishop of William and Benjamin Bishop of Benjamin. (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Co. MD Book JBR f.232, p. 13)
Zipporah died 1821 at 66 years of age. She made a will in Worcester Co., MD, December 16, 1820. (Ruth Dryden, Worcester Co. MD Wills MH2 f.457-458, p.34) Zipporah named her daughter Saborah Messick and son-in-law Jeremiah Messick, daughter Dolly and husband John Bishop, and children Benjamin, William, George and Wilson and deceased son, Joseph. Witnesses: James Hues, James K. Selby and George Hudson.
Zipporah is shown as 45+ in the 1800 census (as wife of Charles Bishop d. 1805), or born before 1755. Suits against the estate of Benjamin Bishop d. 1767 would indicate his children were minors at his death. A receipt for her portion of her father's estate was signed by her and by Charles Bishop. (William R. Bishop) Zipporah was named in her son, Joseph's, will of 1819. Dr. William R. Bishop suspected that Charles was the son of Joseph.
The Debt Books in 1773, Joseph Bishop paid tax on 100 acres of "Simpleton." Joseph died intestate that same year and the estate was administered by Charles Bishop. A Charles Bishop shows up in 1783 with 100 acres of "Simpleton." By probate laws, he would have gotten this land as eldest son. It would appear that Charles is the son of Joseph. (research of Vern Skinner)

Benjamin sold parcels of "Simpleton" in 1808 to Henry Bennett and in 1809 to Lanta Purnell. His wife's name in 1809 was Sally. (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Co., MD Land Records, p. 566) (research of Melanie Ayres Merryweather) Benjamin went to Philadelphia. (research of William R. Bishop)
