97. THEOPHILUS6 MARSHALL (THOMAS JOHN5, THOMAS4, JOHN3, THOMAS2, JOHN1) (#284) was born in Northampton Co., VA 1755. THEOPHILUS died after 1804 (?) Dorcester Co MD.

He married ELIZABETH SHERWOOD before 1779. (notes of Vern Skinner: Talbot Co. Distributions of Philip Sherwood's estate) (ELIZABETH SHERWOOD is #285.) ELIZABETH was the daughter of PHILIP SHERWOOD.

ELIZABETH died after 1803. Theophilus gave a deposition in 1802 that he was aged 47. (James Marshall's notes: Dorchester Deeds HD 20, p. 113, 1802) He applied in March, 1787 for a license to keep an ordinary at his house in New Market. (James Marshall's notes: Dorchester Minutes, p. 108, March, 1787). The 1783 Dorchester tax list shows that he and John were in possession of a tract of land in the Middle District called "Carthegenia Point." Theophilus appears in the 1790 census of Dorcester Co. with 2 males +16, 3 females -16, 4 females +16, and 9 slaves. There is a fifteen year difference in age between Theophilus' two known sons. It is not known if Elizabeth Sherwood is the mother of William Marshall.

Theophilus and Levin were named "next of kin" in the administration of their uncle, Esme's, estate, 1784 Worcester Co., MD.

Theophilus was found guilty of assault on J. Saunders in Dorchester County Court, October Term, 1792.

The "Republican Star" reported on July 12, 1808 that their was mail at the Cambridge post office for Theophilus and William Marshall. (F. Edward Wright, MD Eastern Shore Newspaper Abstracts Vol. 2, p. 42)

THEOPHILUS MARSHALL and ELIZABETH SHERWOOD had the following children:

child 240 ii. JOHN MARSHALL (#286) was born Great Choptank Parish, Dorchester Co MD May 2, 1794. (F.
