She married James Selby. Named in her father's 1795 will and in her grandmother's 1780 will. She joined with her sisters and their husbands to sell land given them by their father.

Mary Sturgis and James Selby had the following child:

320 i. Nancy⁵ Selby. She married Unknown Garrison(husband of Nancy Selby). In his introduction to the 1973 edition of Stratton Nottingham's "Wills & Administrations of Accomack County, Timothy Field Beard writes (p. ix) "Mary Sturgis, the wife of James Selby, and the mother of Nancy Selby Garrison (his line), was the daughter of Capt. Outten Sturgis......"
