827. IRVING⁷ SPENCE (IRVING⁶, ANN NANCY⁵ PURNELL, LEMUEL⁴, ELISHA³, THOMAS², THOMAS¹) was born in Worcester Co., MD April 10, 1828. IRVING died February 5, 1890 in Worcester Co., MD, at 61 years of age.

He married twice. He married HARRIET MAY HAYWARD in Worcester Co., MD, March 1, 1852. HARRIET was the daughter of JOHN E. HAYWARD and MARGARET (wife of John E. Hayward). HARRIET died July 20, 1853 in Worcester Co., MD. She is buried at the P.E. Cemetery, Snow Hill. (Hayward Bible-Leslie P. Dryden, Dryden Family & Descendants, Alamo, TX, 1999)

He married VIRGINIA ELIZABETH HUMPHREYS in Worcester Co., MD, January 28, 1864. VIRGINIA was born January 17, 1835. VIRGINIA was the daughter of CATHELL HUMPHREYS and LEAH (wife of Cathell Humphreys). VIRGINIA died January 28, 1910 in Worcester Co., MD, at 75 years of age. (Leslie P. IRVING SPENCE and VIRGINIA ELIZABETH HUMPHREYS had the following children:

1013 i. MARGARET⁸ SPENCE was born in Worcester Co., MD November 18, 1865. MARGARET died January 6, 1910 in Worcester Co., MD, at 44 years of age. She married JAMES BOWDOIN ROBINS PURNELL (Dr,) after 1898. JAMES was born in Worcester Co., MD November 3, 1829. JAMES was the son of WILLIAM UNDRILL PURNELL and ELEANOR HORSEY ROBINS. JAMES died March 7, 1909 in Worcester Co., MD, at 79 years of age. His body was interred in Worcester Co., MD, All Hallows. He is shown as a doctor, living in a hotel, age 29, in 1850 census of Worcester Co., MD. Ft. Chessid Purnell is the same hotel. 1014 ii. THOMAS HUMPHREYS SPENCE (Prof.) was born in Worcester Co., MD March, 1867. THOMAS died 1937 at 70 years of age. He married CHARLOTTE AUGUSTA CALVERT. CHARLOTTE was born 1870. (information on his wife and children-Leslie P. Dryden, Dryden Family & Descendants, Alamo, TX, 1999, p. 142-143)

1015 iii. VIRGINIA SPENCE was born in Worcester Co., MD April 10, 1869. VIRGINIA died January 21, 1870 at less than one year of age.

1016 iv. MARY SPENCE was born about 1871.
