49. Daniel⁴ Sturgis (John³, John², John¹) was born about 1731. Daniel died May 14, 1788 in Poquoson, VA, at 56 years of age.

He married Jane Bratton about 1749. Jane died December 12, 1801 in Poquoson, VA. He patented "Sturgis' Chance," and "Double Purchase." He is probably the Daniel Sturgis who was at Cedar Creek Hundred, DE, for the 1782 Tax List. He sold land to John Sturgis, son of John, in 1767. He is no doubt the Daniel Sturgis paying tax on "Double Purchase" in 1768 and 1769. (descendants researched by Gerald Collins)

121 i. Laban⁵ Sturgis was born about 1753. Laban died January, 1796 in Poquoson, VA, at 42 years of age. He may be the same Laban as shown on the 1782 Tax List in Delaware. He was of age in 1774.

122 ii. James Armstrong Sturgis was born 1755. James died December 7, 1790 in Poquoson, VA, at 35 years of age. He may be the same James as shown on the 1782 Tax List in Delaware. He married Esther (N) and had children: James Armstrong, Jr., George b. 1778 d. April 4, 1863, Zadock d.c. 1843, Samuel M., b.c. 1785, Jane, b. June 13, 1788 d. October 12, 1841.

123 iii. John Sturgis was born about 1757. John died January, 1825 at 67 years of age. He married Hannah or Anna Wright about 1789 in York Co., SC. Their children: Jane Bratton b. 1790 d. after 1824, Martha Elisabeth b. May 24, 1792 d. June 13, 1876, James Bratton b. December 10, 1794 d. March 18, 1867, Sarah Jane b. July 17, 1797 d. August 17, 1874, John Richardson b. December 25, 1798 d. May 23, 1874, Nancy Anna b. 1801 d. after 1880, William Draper b. October 3, 1803 d. August 6, 1976, Arcadia b. 1805 d. after 1824, Rebecca b. March 1, 1806 d. July 19, 1883, Melinda M. b. December 1, 1808 d. April 16, 1882, Dr. Daniel Bartlett b. June 17, 1811 d. March 16, 1897.

124 iv. Joshua Sturgis was born July 29, 1760. Joshua died January 1, 1845 at 84 years of age. He married Mary McMurry. Their children: Nancy b. before 1793, Daniel b.c. 1794, Joshua L. b. June 12, 1795 d. May 19, 1848, Abigail b. before 1800, Samuel McMurray b. before 1800 d. between 1845-1856. Joshua married Jane Neely about 1800 in York Co., SC. Their children: Elisabeth Synthia b. September 18, 1802 d. August 4, 1881, Mary b. December 25, 1802 d. March 5, 1870, Matthew Neely b. September 14, 1806 d. February 15, 1882, Elizabeth Tirzah b. December 8, 1807 d. December 12, 1874, Thomas White b. 1812 d. 1884, Jane B. d. October 1, 1814.

125 v. Mary Sturgis was born about 1764. Mary died October 4, 1816 in Clinton Co., OH, at 52 years of age. She married David Wilson about 1796.

126 vi. Daniel Sturgis was born February 17, 1768. Daniel died April 9, 1828 in Poquoson, VA, at 60 years of age. He married Frances Thompson and had children: Mary b. July 13, 1795, Cynthia Jane b. June 3, 1800 d. May 23, 1885, William b. September 29, 1802 d. October 6, 1875.
