He married twice. He married TABITHA (wife of John Sturgis) before 1783. He married TABITHA BRUMBLY in Worcester Co., MD, 1796. The 1783 Tax List shows John with "Chance," 1M, 2F. John of Thomas took the Oath of Allegiance in Worcester County in 1778 before the Honorable Joshua Townsend. (Henry C. Peden, Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Cos.) 1800 census of Worcester County shows 2M-10, 1M26-45, 2F-10, 1F10-16, and 1F26-45. John's only two children identified by name are James and George. Any children by his first wife, also named Tabitha, are unknown.

JOHN STURGIS and TABITHA BRUMBLY had the following children:

158 i. JAMES⁶ STURGIS. He is cited as an orphan in 1807.

159 ii. GEORGE STURGIS.
