30. John4 Bowen (William3, William2, William1) was born about 1719. John died 1772 in Worcester Co., MD, at 53 years of age. He is shown in land records as John Jr. Will dated January 2, 1772, probate July 3, 1772. He named wife Sarah and left her 200 acres "Hogsnorten" and then to sons William and John; sons Elisha and Nathaniel, daughters Rhoday, Rachel, Caty and Hessey Bowin; witnesses: Jehu Houston, John Burbage and Edward Hammond. (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Co. Will Book JW4, f.85)

He married Sarah Fooks. Sarah was the daughter of Daniel Fooks. In 1740, Daniel Fooks left tract of A71 to his daughter, Sarah. In 1756, Sarah and John Bowin of Worcester Co. sold the 100 acres to Clement Parker. (Ralph T. Whitelaw, Virginia's Eastern Shore, p. 933)

John Bowen and Sarah Fooks had the following children:

child 82 i. William5 Bowen. He married Ann(wife of William Bowen).

child 83 ii. Nathaniel Bowen. Nathaniel died 1815 in Worcester Co., MD. Will dated February 19, 1815, probate April 20, 1815. He named wife, Nancy and children: Isaac, Joshua, Richard, Barnaby and William. Witnesses: Rhody Bowen, Elisha Bowen, Zipporah Williamson and Josiah Collins. He mentioned that property he bought in Basket Town from Josiah Collins be sold. (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Co., MD Will Book MH, f.95) February Court, 1783 shows Sarah Bowen detaining Nathaniel Bowen, orphan. Nathaniel Bowen, of John,17, bound to John Bowen to lear the trade of cabinet maker; sureties were George Jones and Selby Parker. (David V. Heise, Worcester Co. child 85 iv. Hessey Bowen.

child 86 v. Caty Bowen. Caty died 1804. She married Richard Hall. Richard died 1800 in Worcester Co., MD. Administration was granted to Catherine Hall and Nathaniel Bowin. (David V. Heise, Worcester Co., MD Orphans Court Proceedings, p. 294)

child 87 vi. Rhoda Bowen. Rhoda died 1809 in Worcester Co., MD. Will dated May 19, 1809, probate June 18, 1809. She named brothers Nathaniel and Elisha, sister Catty Hall. She also named Jona Prideaux, Sarah Hall wife of Thomas, Nancy Johnson and Elizabeth Hall. Witnesses: William J. Houston, Elisha Bowen and Parker Collins.

child 89 viii. Elisha Bowen was born before 1772. Elisha died 1809 in Worcester Co., MD, at 37 years of age. Will dated May 19, 1809, probate September 26, 1809. He named brother Nathaniel and sisters Rhoda Bowen and Catty Hall. Witnesses: Parker Collins, Elisha Bowen and William Houston.
