He married Sarah (wife of John Purnell).

He made a will in Worcester Co., MD, May 18, 1778. (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Co. MD Will Book JW4 f.388-390)

John's will was probated in Worcester Co., MD, September 11, 1778. John was Captain, Worcester Militia, Sinepuxent Battalion August 30, 1777 to August 14, 1779. He took the Oath of Allegiance in Worcester County in 1778 in Queponco Hundred. (Henry C. Peden, Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset) His father left him "Purnell's Security," and "Addition to Sherborn." By his will, he left his wife, Sarah, "Purnells Security" and "Sherburn" and several other tracts to his daughter, Martha.

John Purnell had the following child:
