893. John R.⁹ Read (Margaret D.⁸ Jacob, Ann⁷ James, Thomas⁶, Sarah⁵ Marshall, Thomas⁴, John³, Thomas², John¹) was born February 20, 1837. John died November 15, 1900 at 63 years of age.

He married twice. He married Mariah E. Saunders in Northampton Co., VA, March 3, 1858. Mariah was born March 20, 1841. Mariah was the daughter of James Saunders and Maria Nottingham. Mariah died February 11, 1859 at 17 years of age. Buried at Tower Hill, Northampton Co., VA.

He married Elizabeth "Bettie" A. Wilkins in Northampton Co., VA, May 15, 1869. Elizabeth was born August 16, 1849. Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert E. Wilkins and Mary Ann Fitchett. Elizabeth died July 6, 1882 at 32 years of age. Buried at Cape Charles, Northampton Co., VA. (Bill Wilkins)

1310 i. Maria S.¹⁰ Read was born February 2, 1859. Maria died February 3, 1859 at less than one year of age.

John R. Read and Elizabeth "Bettie" A. Wilkins had the following children:

1311 ii. Charles Crawford Read was born 1870. Charles died 1953 at 83 years of age. He married Lotty F. Andrews in Northampton Co., VA, December 14, 1904. Lotty was born 1885. Lotty was the daughter of William D. Andrews and Ida E.(wife of William Andrews). Lotty died 1970 at 85 years of age. Charles and Lotty are buried at Cape Charles, Northampton Co., VA.

1312 iii. Mariah Elizabeth Read was born in Northampton Co., VA 1872. Mariah died 1937 at 65 years of age. She married John B. White(Jr.) in Northampton Co., VA, January 21, 1891. John was born in Somerset Co., MD 1868. John was the son of John B. White and Sarah A. J. Read. John died 1911 at 43 years of age. John and Mariah are buried at Cape Charles, Northampton Co., VA. 1313 iv. Lillian Bailey Read was born 1874. Lillian died 1918 at 44 years of age. She married Samuel W. Womble in Northampton Co., VA, July 26, 1899. Samuel was born in Wayne Co., NC 1870. Samuel was the son of Samuel Womble and Sally(wife of Samuel Womble). Samuel died 1950 at 80 years of age. Samuel was a cooper. He and Lillian are buried at Cape Charles, Northampton Co., VA.
