He married Sarah (wife of Hezekia Purnell). Hezekiah does not appear on the Tax List in his father's household in 1740, so he was under age 16 in 1740. His father left him "Purnells Exchange," "Pharsalia," and "Piny Island." Hezekiah was named next of kin, along with his mother, Martha Selby, on the 1765 inventory of his brother, John. Hezekiah and Sarah Purnell sold two acres of "Pharsalia in 1750 and he sold two acres in 1765. (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Land Records)
Hezekia died without a will. The names of his children are not known or proved. A John Purnell, son of Hezekia, took the Oath of Allegiance in Worcester County in 1778. (Henry C. Peden, Jr., Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Cos. MD, Willow Bend, Westminster, MD, 1999, p. 238) Hezekia, son of John and Martha, is the only Purnell of that given name found in the Mattapony family.
Administration account for Hezekiah Purnell in 1770 shows Sarah P. as administrator and cites seven children, but does not give their names. (Adm. Accouts Liber 65, folio 159 researched by Vernon Skinner)
