707. George Washington⁷ Purnell (Dr.) (James Robins Spence⁶, George Washington⁵, William⁴, Elisha³, Thomas², Thomas¹) was born in Worcester Co., MD August 20, 1836. George died April 5, 1905 in Hazelhurst, Copiah Co., MS.

He married twice. He married Mary Gertrude Selby in Woodville, MS, 1858. He married Clara Burdette in Hazelhurst, Copiah Co., MS, 1888.

George Washington Purnell(Dr.) and Mary Gertrude Selby had the following children:

982 i. Elizabeth Posey⁸ Purnell was born in New Orleans, LA March 6, 1860. Elizabeth died October 6, 1929 in Coahoma Co., MS. She married Thomas Butler Birdsong(Dr.) November 22, 1882. Thomas was born in Preston, GA August 21, 1859. Thomas was the son of Lafayette Felix Birdson(Capt.) and Sarah Frances Stapleton. Thomas died March 9, 1940 in Coahoma Co., MS. Their living descendants are shown in The Littleton Heritage, p. 426-428.

983 ii. Mary Louisa Purnell was born in Hazelhurst, Copiah Co., MS March 15, 1866. Mary died May 26, 1940 in Crystal Springs, Copiah Co., MS. She married Joseph Downer Stapleton in Hazelhurst, Copiah Co., MS, January 15, 1885. Joseph was born in Griffen, GA August 7, 1853. Joseph died May 20, 1903 in Hazelhurst, Copiah Co., MS. Their living descendants are listed in The Littleton Heritage, p. 426-428.

984 iii. George Washington Purnell(Jr.) was born in Hazelhurst, Copiah Co., MS June 18, 1891. George died February 7, 1960 in Wichita, KS. He married Katherine Rea in Jackson, MS, March 20, 1920. Katherine was born in Hazelhurst, Copiah Co., MS October 12, 1898. Their living descendants are shown in The Littleton Heritage, p. 426-428.
