15. Elisha3 Purnell (Thomas2, Thomas1) was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1702. Elisha died 1767 in Worcester Co., MD.

He married twice. He married Mary Selby about 1727. Mary was born about 1708. Mary was the daughter of William Selby and Sarah(wife of William Selby). Mary died before 1761 in Worcester Co., MD. Her father named her sons in his 1761 will but did not name her. (her given name from Bible record compiled by Charles H. B. Turner-Karen L. Robert & George I. Purnell III, Descendants of Thomas Purnell, private, 1999)

He married Mary Ann Givan after 1748. Mary was the daughter of Robert Givan. Mary died after 1788. Wise's 'Littleton Heritage', p. 215, shows Mary Ann who married Bowdoin Robins to be daughter of Robert Givan d. 1732 and widow of Adam Bell d. 1748 and widow of Elisha Purnell d. 1767.

The administrative account of the estate of Robert Givan on June 25, 1741 shows one of the legatees was the unnamed wife of Addam Bell (Admin. Acct. 8:248). Inventory of Dr. Adam Bell was filed January 29, 1749 by Mary Ann Purnell, admin. (MD Inven. 42:125) Distribution of the estate of Adam Bell of Worcester County was made on April 4, 1752 by Elisha Purnell and Mary Ann Purnell, admin. of Adam Bell. (MD Dist. 1:35) (research of F. Mary Ann, wife of Bowdoin Robins, made her will October 4, 1788, Worcester Co., MD, naming Henry Ackworth, Walter Smith (to have family Bible, Marianna Andrews, wife of John, Caty Riggin, wife of Darby, Robert and John Schoolfield, and the wife of Ishmael Andrews.

Elisha's will was probated in Worcester Co., MD, April 17, 1767. He made a will in Worcester Co., MD, May 16, 1767. (Maryland Calendar of Wills 1767-1772 v14, p.4) Elisha received "Adams Full Quality," and "Rochester" from his father. He obtained "Fairfield" (perhaps at his brother Benjamin's death). Elisha left "Fairfield" to his son William. He named tracts lying on the seaside called "Old Fairfield," "Rochester" "Partner Choice" and Cypress Swamp called "Creddals Choice."

Elisha Purnell and Mary Selby had the following children:

child 75 ii. Sarah Purnell. She married John Franklin. Elisha named as his children, Sarah and John Franklin.

child 76 iii. John Franklin Purnell. Elisha Purnell's will, "I give to William, Chessed, and John Franklin Purnell, all the land I possess in the Cypress Swamp called "Breddals Choice." (Karen L. Robert, Descendants of Thomas Purnell, 1999)

child + 77 iv. Lemuel Purnell(Judge) was born October, 1730.

child + 78 v. William Purnell(Col.) was born about 1739.
