and Ellen are shown with their family in the 1850 census. William's sister, Esther, is living with them. His children and grandchildren are

Margaret was born in Worcester Co., MD November 18, 1865. Margaret was the daughter of Irving Spence and Virginia

Alamo, TX, 1999) He is shown as a doctor, living in a hotel, age 29, in 1850 census of Worcester Co., MD. Ft. Chessid Purnell is the same

Catharine Dirickson 1860. Emma was born December 20, 1837. Emma was the daughter of John C. Dirickson and Catherine(wife
of John Dirickson). Emma died March 18, 1866 in Worcester Co., MD. Her body was interred in Worcester Co., MD.

Margaret was born April 14, 1841. Margaret died November 17, 1917. His eight children are traced in Melanie Ayres
Merryweather's Genealogy of the Purnell Family, p. 36. His home in Snow Hill was located on the north side of East Market Street. The
property was later owned by his daughter, Frances Purnell Thebaud. A lawyer, George Purnell purchased this property in 1877 and before had
rented a house next to it. His law office stood on the northeast corner of the courthouse yard during the 1870's. (Paul Baker Touart, Along
