878. Levi A.⁷ Purnell (Matthew⁶, John⁵, William⁴, Matthew³, Thomas², Thomas¹) was born in Worcester Co., MD about 1841. He is shown age 9 in 1850 census. Levi died August, 1903 in Snow Hill, Worcester Co., MD.

He married Sarah Messick. Levi purchased property in 1880 from Littleton R. Purnell. Levi's heir, Mary E. Purnell, and her husband, Thomas M. Purnell continued there and the property stayed in the Purnell family until the early 1940's. The property was a corner lot across from the courthouse at Market Square. Levi is shown as Vice President of First National Bank at Snow Hill when it opened in 1887. (Paul Baker Touart, Along The Seaboard Side, p. 362) Levi and his family are shown at Snow Hill in 1880 and his occupation as "ex-hotel keeper;" wife Sarah M, 37; Mary, 10, Estelle, 8, Matthew, 3.

Levi A. Purnell and Sarah Messick had the following children:

1146 i. Mary E.⁸ Purnell. She married Thomas M. Purnell. This is probably the Thomas M. Purnell of Snow Hill who owned the Purnell Hotel at Washington & Green Streets, built in 1895. (Paul Baker Touart, Along The Seaboard Side, p. 366)

1147 ii. Estelle Purnell was born about 1872.

1148 iii. Matthew Purnell was born about 1877.
