226. Zadock⁷ Sturgis (John⁶, Zadock⁵, John⁴, John³, John², John¹) was born in Worcester Co., MD about 1822. Zadock died 1886 at 64 years of age.

He married Sarah Hanline in Philadelphia, PA, 1853. Sarah was born 1833. Sarah was the daughter of Alfred Hanline. Sarah died 1865 at 32 years of age. Sarah's father left money to his granddaughter, Lydia Holby. Sarah Hanline obituary, Philadelphia Public Ledger August 23, 1865. Zadock was alive in 1865 and named in his father's will and in the distribution of the estate. He does not appear in the 1850 Worcester census.

He may be the Zadock Sturgis who was in Philadelphia, PA in 1853. The 1854 Philadelphia directory shows Zadock, clerk, 169 Market St., home is 156 Market St. He appears in the 1880 city directory with an Edward Sturgis, butcher, at the same address. The 1885 directory lists a Zachariah Sturgis at the address.

Zadock of Philadelphia had a son, John D. Sturgis b. 1857, Philadelphia, PA. John D. Sturgis had two children: Maggie and Zadock (birth certificate spelled Ezeadock) (notes of Kay Davis)

285 i. Lydia⁸ Sturgis was born 1854. She married an unknown person. Lydia married (N) Holby and had a son, Albert H. Holby. Zadock Sturgis' sister, Mary named Lydia's son, Albert Holby, in her 1915 will. (Worcester Wills, EPD#10:352, research of Vern Skinner)

286 ii. John D. Sturgis was born in Philadelphia, PA 1857. John died 1884 at 27 years of age. John had two children, Maggie and Zadock (spelled Ezeadock on his birth certificate), both born in Philadelphia. Zadock had four children: William, Charles, John and Shirely. (notes of Kay Davis)
