He married Sarah Hanline in Philadelphia, PA, 1853. Sarah was born 1833. Sarah was the daughter of Alfred Hanline. Sarah died 1865 at 32 years of age. Sarah's father left money to his granddaughter, Lydia Holby. Sarah Hanline obituary, Philadelphia Public Ledger August 23, 1865. Zadock was alive in 1865 and named in his father's will and in the distribution of the estate. He does not appear in the 1850 Worcester census.

The 1854 Philadelphia directory shows Zadock, clerk, 169 Market St., home is 156 Market St. He appears in the 1880 city directory with an Edward Sturgis, butcher, at the same address. The 1885 directory lists a Zachariah Sturgis at the address.
