197. John⁶ Dent (Gen.) (George⁵, Elizabeth⁴ Fowke, Ann³ Thorowgood, Adam², William¹) was born 1732. John died 1809 at 77 years of age.

He married Sarah L. Marshall****. Sarah was born 1735. Sarah was the daughter of Thomas Marshall**** and Elizabeth Bishop. Sarah died April 9, 1795 at 59 years of age. Her tombstone shows she died aged 59 years, 6 months. He rose to the rank of General during the Revolution. (M. E. Marshall, Marshall Hall on the Potomac, 1997)

John Dent(Gen.) and Sarah L. Marshall**** had the following children:

378 i. George⁷ Dent. Served as a Captain during the Revolution and was Speaker of the House of the Maryland Legislature and later Congress. (M. E. Marshall, Marshall Hall on the Potomac, 1997)

+ 379 ii. Ann Herbert Dent was born October 30, 1756.

380 iii. Thomas Marshall Dent(Capt.) was born in Charles Co., MD October 22, 1761. Served during the Revolution. He was maternal grandfather of Lt. Gen. James Longstreet. (M. E. Marshall, Marshall Hall on the Potomac, 1997)
