He married Caroline G. Handy in Somerset Co., MD, February 12, 1850. Caroline was born 1819. Caroline died 1895 in Somerset Co., MD, at 76 years of age.

Robert E. Whittington and Caroline G. Handy had the following children:

506 i. William E.⁷ Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD November 24, 1850. William died December 29, 1920 at 70 years of age. He married Adelia C. Miles. Adelia was born 1849. 507 ii. John O. Clarence Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD November 14, 1855. John died September 14, 1921 in Somerset Co., MD, at 65 years of age.

508 iii. Robert P. Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD January 11, 1859. Robert died August 3, 1920 at 61 years of age. He married Clara J. Holland in Somerset Co., MD, July 14, 1897. (Matthew M. Wise, The Littleton Heritage, p. 27)
