31. JOSHUA⁴ WHITTINGTON (WILLIAM³, WILLIAM², WILLIAM¹) (#1160) was born in Somerset Co. MD about 1720. JOSHUA died about 1761 in Somerset Co. MD.

He married ELIZABETH NAIRN in Somerset Co. MD, 1753. (Matthew Wise, The Littleton Heritage, p. 11) (ELIZABETH NAIRN is #1159.)

ELIZABETH was born about 1732. ELIZABETH was the daughter of ROBERT NAIRN and JANNET WATTS. ELIZABETH died before 1771. Matthew Wise, in "The Littleton Heritage" shows her name as Elizabeth Marshall Nairn. It is yet not known why she was given this middle name and for which Marshall family it honors. Joshua's children: William, Esther and Elizabeth, were named "cousins" by John Nairn in his 1771 will. Molly was probably born after 1771.

Ronald McClendon shows Joshua's wife as Elizabeth "Hearn", and his research follows an Elizabeth, shown to be Joshua's daughter. The date for this Elizabeth's marriage to a John Whittington is 1723 and the line continues to Georgia and Mississippi. Because of conflicting dates, this information has not been included, as it does not appear the Elizabeth Whittington who married John Whittington was the daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth Nairn.

+ 88 iv. MARY MOLLY WHITTINGTON was born about 1764.
