390. James Robins Spence⁸ Purnell (Dr.) (Mary "Molly" Outten⁷, Sarah⁶ Marshall, Thomas⁵, John⁴, John³, Thomas², John¹) was born in Worcester Co., MD November 19, 1804. James died August 22, 1848 in Worcester Co., MD, at 43 years of age. His body was interred in Worcester Co., MD, St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

He married Mary J. Franklin in Worcester Co., MD, December 21, 1831. Mary was born December 24, 1809. Mary was the daughter of Isaac Franklin and Martha Ironshire. Mary died January 27, 1893 in Worcester Co., MD, at 83 years of age. Children, Edgar H. 17, George W. 14, William 10, Wilmore 7, and widow Mary J. 36, are in household of Rachel R. Purnell, age 51, in 1850 census, along with and Hetty Gillis age 14. (dates-Matthew Wise, The Littleton Heritage, p. 423)
