He married Rhoda Brittingham in Worcester Co., MD, before October 8, 1769. Solomon Brittingham named Thomas Purnell as son-in-law. Rhoda was the daughter of Solomon Brittingham and Mary(wife of Solomon Brittingham). The administrative account for Thomas Purnell was submitted November 15, 1775 by Rhoda Fisher (not a Quaker), wife of Jabez Fisher (Quaker) (notes of F. Edward Wright). (her surname-Suzanne B. He made a will in Worcester Co., MD, September 9, 1774. (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Co. MD Wills JW4, p. 31)

Thomas's will was probated in Worcester Co., MD, December 9, 1774. Thomas was named in the will of his grandfather, Matthew and received "Purnell's Security" and "Addition to Sherborn." His father left him "Purnalls Adventure." Thomas 'son of my brother Levi' was named in the will of Thomas Purnell dtd 1772 and given land at "Purnells Industry." Worcester Orphans Court Proceedings show his children with their guardian, Levi Purnell. (notes of Vernon L. Skinner) Thomas named his children and friend, William Holland.

Thomas Purnell and Rhoda Brittingham had the following children:
