He married twice. He married Elizabeth Wilkins in Greensville Co., VA, November 1, 1799. Elizabeth was born in VA about 1775. Elizabeth was the daughter of Douglas Wilkins. Elizabeth died 1811. He married Elizabeth Dillon in Elkton, TN, about 1815. Elizabeth was born in VA March 10, 1797. Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Dillon and Elizabeth Keeling. Elizabeth died after 1850. (Notes of Serena Pendleton Purnell) Referred to by some as William D., his full name was William H. for Henry. William was named by his sister Nancy and brother Stephen in 1834 and 1835, respectively. Often shown as William D. Purnell, his full name was William Henry Purnell. He came to Greene Co., Alabama about 1823. His estate settlement shows he was essentially bankrupt, but it names his heirs. (research of Diane Bender)
