She married John Walter Smith (Sr.) in Worcester Co., MD, October 2, 1833. John was the son of Samuel R. Smith and Mary Marshall. (James H. Marshall, Dan Trimble)

Charlotte Catharine Whittington and John Walter Smith(Sr.) had the following children:

1060 i. Emeline C.⁸ Smith was born in Worcester Co., MD November 14, 1834. Emeline died January 24, 1927 in Worcester Co., MD. Her body was interred in Worcester Co., MD, Makeme Presbyterian Church. She married Charles Wesley Clayville in Worcester Co., MD, December 5, 1879.

+ 1061 ii. Thomas Spence Smith was born 1842.

+ 1062 iii. John Walter Smith(Jr.) (Gov.) was born February 5, 1845.
