627. John Outten⁶ Sturgis (Jr.) (John Outten⁵, Mary⁴ Outten, Sarah³ Purnell, John², Thomas¹) was born about 1756. John died 1810 in Worcester Co., MD.

He married twice. He married Sarah Bratton about 1790. He married Leah Mills about 1802. Leah died before 1837. 1790 census: 1-0-3. John died intestate. His children were named in his father's 1814 will.

John Outten Sturgis(Jr.) and Sarah Bratton had the following children:

954 i. Handy Mills⁷ Sturgis. He married Catharine Q. Harper in Worcester Co., MD, December 18, 1820. Catharine was the daughter of Samuel Adams Harper. Catharine was named in her father's will and given his dwelling plantation. He left her 7 acres "Addition to Chance" and "Tarr Kill Ridge." (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Land Records, pp. 104, 622)

955 ii. Henry Sturgis was born after 1790. Henry was named as son of John O. Sturgis, Jr. by his grandfather in 1816. He was given part of a tract called "Friends Assistance."

John Outten Sturgis(Jr.) and Leah Mills had the following children:

+ 956 iii. Leah Bratten Sturgis.

957 iv. Sarah Mills Sturgis. She married twice. She married an unknown person. She married Henry Brittingham January 9, 1832. Her mother named her Sarah M. Brittingham in her will.

958 v. Catherine Sturgis. She married William T. Stevenson January 29, 1828.

+ 959 vi. John Outten Sturgis(III) was born 1803.
