42. William4 Whittington (Col.) (Southy3, William2, William1) was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1740. William died 1818 in Somerset Co., MD, at 78 years of age.

He married Priscilla Polk 1760. Priscilla was born about 1740. Priscilla was the daughter of James Polk and Elizabeth(wife of James Polk). Priscilla died about 1834. He served as a Corporal, Somerset Militia, Princess Anne Battalion, under Capt. John Williams' and later as Colonel, Watkins Point Co., in 1780 during the Revolution. (Matthew M. Wise, The Littleton Heritage; Henry C. Peden, Jr., Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Counties MD; Woodrow T. Wilson, 34 Families) He was known as Col. Whittington of "Chance."

William named his wife and son, James, in his will dated December 29, 1815. He also named his grandchildren. (Ruth T. Dryden, Somerset Co. MD Wills 1800-1820 EB23, San Diego, CA, p. 70)

William Whittington(Col.) and Priscilla Polk had the following children:

child 120 ii. Elizabeth Whittington was born about 1761. She married Mitchell Russum. Elizabeth's descendants are continued in "The Littleton Heritage."

child + 121 iii. Margaret Whittington was born about 1763.

child 122 iv. William Whittington was born about 1765. William died before 1806.

child + 123 v. Mary Jane Polk Whittington was born about 1769.

child + 124 vi. Isaac Joseph Whittington was born about 1770.

child 125 vii. Eleanor Whittington was born about 1773. She married J. Harper. (Matthew Wise, The Littleton Heritage)

child + 126 viii. James Whittington was born about 1775.
