42. William4 Whittington (Col.) (Southy3, William2, William1) was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1740. William died 1818 in Somerset Co., MD, at 78 years of age. He married Priscilla Polk 1760. Priscilla was born about 1740. Priscilla was the daughter of James Polk and Elizabeth(wife of James Polk). Priscilla died about 1834. He served as a Corporal, Somerset Militia, Princess Anne Battalion, under Capt. John Williams' and later as Colonel, Watkins Point Co., in 1780 during the Revolution. (Matthew M. Wise, The Littleton Heritage; Henry C. Peden, Jr., Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Counties MD; Woodrow T. Wilson, 34 Families) He was known as Col. Whittington of "Chance." William named his wife and son, James, in his will dated December 29, 1815. He also named his grandchildren. (Ruth T. Dryden, Somerset Co.
