319. John6 Whittington (James5, William4, Southy3, William2, William1) was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1824. John died after 1880.

He married Sarah Virginia Stevenson in Somerset Co., MD, November 28, 1854. Sarah was born about 1839. Sarah was the daughter of Benjamin Stevenson and Harriet A. Ward. Matt Wise shows her nickname as "Nealy." She is shown in the 1860 census as Sarah V. January 6, 1881, John and wife Sarah Virginia for $1,750 sold to Benjamin Lankford the tract "Puzzel" devised to John by his father in his 1851 will. He is shown living with his parents in the 1850 census. In 1860, he is a farmer and head of household 915. He is shown as a ship carpenter in 1870, household 36 and in 1880 keeping a lighthouse with all his children still at home. (Matthew M. Wise, The Littleton Heritage; notes of Ed Hopkins) Notes of Ed Hopkins indicate that sons William and "Roland" (probably Phillip R.) stayed in Crisfield, MD; sons Harry and Algier went to New York City and the others moved to Texas.

child 549 i. William F.7 Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1855. He is shown in the 1880 census as a sailor and titled Captain.

child 550 ii. John E. "Jack" Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1858. He married Ella Riggin in Somerset Co., MD, June 25, 1890. Ella was born about 1874. Jack was a sailor in 1880 and later a farmer near Marion, MD.

child 551 iii. James S. Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1858.

child 552 iv. Cornelia F. Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD May, 1860. She is shown as one month old on the 1860 census.

child 553 v. Charles H. Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1861.

child 554 vi. Joseph H. Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1863.

child 555 vii. Thomas J. Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD July 3, 1866. Thomas died January 9, 1958 at 91 years of age. He married Arizona Sterling. He lived at Crisfield, MD and had four children. (Matthew M. Wise, The Littleton Heritage)

child 556 viii. Frederick Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1870.

child 557 ix. Phillip R. Whittington was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1872.
