She married Peter Townsend. Peter was born in Worcester Co., MD about 1760. Peter was the son of Barkley or Bartley Townsend. Peter died before 1795 in Worcester Co., MD. On October 6, 1791, Joshua Townsend sold to Peter lot in Snow Hill. On December 16, 1791, Peter, with wife Sarah Marshall Townsend sold lot 10 in Snow Hill to Joshua Townsend, son of Jeremiah. (Ruth T. Dryden, The Townsend Family) She was called Sarah Marshall Townsend in her brother, Matthew's, will of 1791 and her mother named her sons: Isaac Purnell Townsend and (Hist?) Marshall Townsend.

Sarah "Sary" Marshall Purnell and Peter Townsend had the following children:

176 i. Thomas⁷ Townsend. He maried Sophie Truitt in 1804. They had two sons: John Townsend went west with his family to Ohio and he moved on to Missouri, where he is buried. He married 2nd Rebecca McElwain and had children; among them a Moses R. Townsend. William Townsend moved with his family to Ohio and William stayed at Clinton Co., OH, where he married and and is buried. (Nancy Zebelean)
