He married Mary Houston before 1770. Mary died 1822 in Worcester Co., MD. She made a will in Worcester Co., MD, June 8, 1822. (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Co. MD Wills MH2 f.562, p.42)

Mary's will was probated in Worcester Co., MD, December 20, 1822. Mary was the sister of James Houston. She married second Joshua Townsend. Witnesses to her will: Esme P. Bowen and Riley Jones.

He made a will in Worcester Co., MD, June 16, 1791. (Ruth T. Dryden, Worcester Co., MD Wills JWB f.38-39)

Matthew's will was probated in Worcester Co., MD, August 23, 1791. He served as Captain, Worcester Militia, Sinepuxent Bn., August 30, 1777 to at least July 25, 1780. Took the Oath of Allegiance in Worcester Co. in 1778 before the Hon. Nathaniel Miller. (Henry C. Peden, Jr., Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Cos. Matthew's will gives his wife's name. He was named in his grandfather, Matthew's, will in 1760 and his father left him "all lands that my father Matthew willed me and "Purnells Industry." Matthew named two of his sons and two daughters, his sister, mother and uncle Elisha.

Elizabeth's will was probated in Worcester Co., MD, February 26, 1830.

child 181 iii. Levi Purnell was born in Worcester Co., MD 1773. He was under 18 in 1791. (dob-notes of Suzanne B. Hurley, Ocean City Lifesaving Museum) His father left him "Purnells Industry."

child + 182 iv. Moses Purnell was born 1784.
