388. Zadock⁸ Purnell (John⁷, Sarah⁶ Marshall, Thomas⁵, John⁴, John³, Thomas², John¹) was born in Worcester Co., MD 1799. Zadock died 1841 in Worcester Co., MD, at 42 years of age.

He married three times. He married Catherine Covington Dirickson in Worcester Co., MD, September 14, 1818. Catherine was the daughter of Levin Dirickson. He married Jane Bowen in Worcester Co., MD, July 25, 1825. Jane was the daughter of James Bowen. Jane died about 1836. She is not named in her father's will, nor are her children.

He married Mary Hammond in Worcester Co., MD, 1837. Mary was born 1803. Mary died after 1850. A Martha Hammond, age 22, was living with Mary and Zadock in 1850. Known as "Big Zadock," he is shown as an orphan of John Purnell and John Purnell's mother was Robert Mitchell's widow August court 1809. (orphans court-transcribed by Suzanne B. Zadock and his family were ennumerated in the 1850 census of Worcester County, MD: Zadock, 51, Mary 47, Elizabeth 12, Clementine 10, Zadock 18, John 8, William H. 5.

Zadock Purnell and Mary Hammond had the following children:

711 ii. Elizabeth Purnell was born 1838. She is listed in the 1850 census in her father's household.

718 ix. Annie Maria Purnell was born 1831. Annie died 1850 at 19 years of age. She married George E. Bowen in Worcester Co., MD, October 7, 1849. (Mary Beth & Vanessa Long, Worcester Marriage Records) George was the son of David Bowen. George was named in his father's will and given 600 acres "where I live."
